New herd sire, Stralongford Trojan, Overall Champion Perth November 07, 16000gns.
The Dellfield Herd was founded in 1977 with the purchase of a heifer at Perth - 'Stuartslaw Faith', and a cow from the Beaufort dispersal - 'Gilberte', who was in calf to Solway Adonis. The resultant heifer calf was 'Dellfield Annabelle'. Faith and Annabelle were to be the foundation of the herd, with most of the 60 or so pedigree cows in the herd today being traced back to these two females. Stuartslaw Faith produced many good bulls including the top price at perth two years running and also, the then record price in 1981 of 5400gns for Dellfield Klaus. Another tremendous influence on the herd was the purchase of Hockenhull Marvel jointly with the Blackford Herd. In 1999 we moved to Druid Temple Farm, an upland stock unit, and numbers were increased to 160 cows, comprising 60 pedigree Simmentals and 100 Sim x and Shorthorn x cows, with some of these being crossed with a Charolais bull. Also in 1999 another influencial stock bull was purchased in 'Wroxall Field Marshal' from the Milnafua dispersal. He bred exceptionally well and left us fleshy, milky females and also produced bulls which sold to 6500gns at Perth, and £7000 privately. Our cattle are managed very commercially, with the aim of producing sound crossing bulls for sale at perth and privately. New sire Trojan has been running with over 30 cows and is still in excellent shape.
